* Through late tonight

* a very moist air mass remains in place over much of New
Mexico... and many areas have already observed moderate to
locally heavy rainfall since Wednesday. This will escalate the
threat for flash flooding through tonight as repeated bursts of
shower and thunderstorm activity redevelop with the potential
for additional periods of heavy rainfall. Rainfall rates will
commonly approach 1 to 3 inches per hour with some heavier
downpours possible in localized areas.

* Flash flooding will be most susceptible around steep terrain and
recently burned forests... as well as urban drainages... and areas
that recently experienced heavy rainfall. Some minor flooding is
also possible on tributaries leading to main Stem rivers over
northern and eastern New Mexico.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to
flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
Monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should flash
flood warnings be issued.
